Zodiac Wednesday: Shoto Todoroki

Hello to all my kings and queens and those of you who are in between. Back by surprisingly popular demand, I bring to you this week’s Zodiac Wednesday!

This week I’ll be analyzing the personality and guessing the sign
of a fan favorite of the anime world, Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia (or if we are being appropriate, Boku No Hero Academia).

For those of you who are still new to my blog, every Wednesday, I take a specific anime character taking note of their mannerisms, personality, and actions in the series and guess their Zodiac sign(s) based off those factors.

Without further ader….Let’s get this party started.

First things first, I’m going to point out the ironic truth…he is not a Fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) by any means. Yes, I know he shoots fire from his fingertips but this isn’t Avatar: The Last Airbender where the writers accurately assigned the right elements to the right characters based on their personalities. (That may be interesting to cover one day. Let me know below what you think.)

The thing to remember about Shoto is he has a very grounded presence. When you compare him with the rest of his high energy class, Todoroki is the most composed of them all. His energy isn’t MAD in your face, nor is he very frantic. When he’s in battle he is present and tunes into his body to be fully aware of every move his opponent makes, and when the moment is right he strikes. On top of that, he has a sharp instinct and responds quickly to sudden attacks or situations. So putting all that into perspective, we can definitely say he’s an Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) or maybe a Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces).

However, a personality about water signs that eliminates that element for Todoroki is that Water signs are very emotionally sensitive beings. Psychically sensitive as well. A lot of time, water signs’ actions are driven by emotion. Todoroki’s actions are driven by logic. Even with that wall he built from his tramautic childhood he still handles situations with logic and taste. Yeah. Midoriya did bring emotion out of Todoroki during their match but…it wasn’t really a lot. He was actually somewhat composed when Midoriya swayed him to use his fire ability. So the water signs are out!

Shoto originally had (sometimes still does) a cold, focused personality that allowed him to keep to himself. First of all, before we go any farther…

Earth signs that don’t mind being by themselves:
Virgo, Capricorn, Taurus

That looks better. Yeah, you’ll rarely find a Taurus finding comfort in being alone unless some other planets in their chart are throwing that off. They value partnership and people too much.

Todoroki also held a moderate amount of arrogance, too, for, he knew he could take on any obstacle that stood in his way with his strength on his own. This pride actually became his downfall in the most recent season when taking the Hero licensing exam. He let his “I can handle this all by myself” attitude get the best, thus, forgetting the main component of being a hero: working as a team to save the people. Don’t get me wrong, I admire that fixed energy of getting things done, but you have to remember, heroes need help from time to time. We can’t take on everything. This can be a Virgo trait but this is definitely seen more in Capricorn. Capricorns are known as the workaholics. When they want something done, they are independent and strong enough to say, “I got this,” and get shit done.

My Zodiac Verdict:

CAPRICORN

Through and through, our boy is a Capricorn. He can have a cold, distant personality, is a very logical thinker with quick response time, but the dead giveaway that he is a Capricorn is that he is stubborn as hell.

A very interesting observation I have noticed about Capricorns is that if they are introduced to a troubling past during childhood, they carry it with them into adulthood and getting them to move away from that past or accept it is a CHALLENGE. It’s like once they have experienced that trauma, they build their fortress. No one is to come in this fortress nor is the Capricorn native leaving. This form of isolation turns their curt demeanor into something cold and distant. They can be seen as bitchy, rude, or even unfriendly. However, when they learn to accept their past and become willing to move on, they possess great strength and practically become unstoppable.

This is the epitome of Todoroki. He has carried his troubling past into his early adulthood and developed this loathing for his fire abilities. Developing an unfriendly, distant demeanor that brought him enemies, and caused a specific person to resent him. This distant personality forced him to fight on his own and become independent because no one really fought for him. Thus, developing the “I don’t need anyone, I can do this on my own” personality he had. However, Midoriya’s speech during the U.A. Sports Festival resurfaced a memory to Todoroki of his mother’s supportive words causing Todoroki to use his fire power in combat for the first time since childhood. And now he’s a much stronger fighter with his dual quirk. Just like Capricorn, once he accepted his past and who he was, that cold, distant fortress came down and he now grows stronger and stronger every day.
